Admittance procedure

The Antal Kerpely Doctoral School of Materials Science and Technology of the University of Miskolc announces applications for doctoral training in 2023/24. academic year II. for a semester (cross-semester training) within the framework of accredited doctoral schools.

The most important changes are the followings:

  • The doctoral program requires a minimum of 240 credits, the training period is eight
    semesters.
  • The doctoral program consists of two phases: the first four semesters are the „training and research” phase, and the second is the „research and dissertation” phase.
  • At the end of the fourth semester as finishing the training and research phase and as condition for the start of the research and dissertation phase, a complex exam must be completed which evaluates the study and research progress.
  • The PhD student must submit the doctoral dissertation within three years after the complex exam.
  • The monthly amount of the state-supported PhD student scholarship is 140000 HUF in the training and research phase and 180000 HUF in the research and dissertation phase.

 

For doctoral program may apply

  • Final-year university students,
  • persons with a university diploma or a certificate certifying the attainment of a master’s degree,
  • persons with bachelor’s degree, undertaking to continue the master’s program with the doctoral program at the same time.
  • In case of foreign diploma, when applying for a doctoral program, the applicant must apply for the recognition of the foreign educational level, attaching the diploma, as well as documents proving the duration of the studies and the successful completion of the studiesa certified copy and a certified translation of the above documents)

The Antal Kerpely Doctoral School of Materials Sciences and Technologies starts doctoral training in a state-supported and with the obligation to pay tuition fees.

 

Admission requirements and conditions

  • Proof of previously listed qualifications,
  • To prove knowledge of a foreign language, an oral presentation in English on the research topic,
  • Sufficient level of professional knowledge in the chosen research topic.

Preference will be given to an applicant with an initial certified scientific/professional result (publication or any scientific award).

Documents to be attached to the application

  1. Copy of transcript;
  2. Copy of diploma (if the student has already received it);
  3. CV;
  4. Copy of a document proving language skills (if possible);
  5. Copies of articles;
  6. A description of the idea of the doctoral topic (research plan);
  7. Certifying the transfer, the admission procedure fee.

Doctoral schools can also define other special conditions for the training, which are available on the respective doctoral school’s website (http://www.uni-miskolc.hu/doctoral programmes).

Criteria for assessment

  • At the oral entrance examination, the Selection Committee is convinced of the candidate’s professional orientation, ideas related to his or her doctoral work, the scientific activities and language skills.
  • In the exam, the Committee evaluates the Candidate’s performance with a score of up to 100, on the basis of which it ranks them and recommends or does not recommend their admission.
  • At least 60 points are required for admission. Achieve of 60 points does not mean automatic enrolment.
  • The candidates’ rank is submitted to the Doctoral Council for admission. The Doctoral Council of Discipline suggests for admission, takin into account the scholarship limits received from the University Doctoral Council and other possibilities and capacities of the Doctoral School.
  • Admission is decided by the University Doctoral Council.
  • The student before the state exam may be admitted only conditionally.The admission can only be finalized if the university degree is rated at least „good” or „cum laude”.
  • The admitted full-time student is entitled to a scholarship. Admitted state scholarship students will receive dormitory placement in justified cases and will be paid a fee next to the student status.

             Date of admission exam: Jan. , 2024.

             Decision about the admission: Febr. 9, 2024.

Admission procedure fee is 9000 HUF.

It is possible to submit the application documentation electronically with a submission deadline of January 12, 2024, which must be sent to the e-mail address judit.kocsisne.kovacs@uni-miskolc.hu. Documents found to be suitable after the formal inspection are also forwarded electronically to the individual doctoral schools by the Scientific and International Directorate. Payment of the admission procedure fee by check is not possible, so please pay the amount of the procedure fee by bank transfer.
